Whether you're just getting started or continuing your academic journey, TRIO SSS is here to support you every step of the way via personalized academic counseling, tutoring, peer mentoring, financial literacy resources, and much more.

Eligibility for TRIO SSS

To be eligible for the TRIO SSS program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

✅ Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
✅ Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at our institution
✅ Be motivated to succeed and benefit from additional academic and personal support
AND meet at least one of the following:

  • Be a first-generation college student (neither parent/guardian has a 4-year college degree)

  • Meet federal low-income guidelines (let us determine this, but great indicators are if you received Federal Pell Grant and/or are a 21st Century Scholar)

  • Have a documented disability (While you do not need to be registered with USI's Disability Resources, we highly recommend their office for further support).

PARTICIPANT AGREEMENT:

  • I accept responsibility for my academic success and agree to attend classes without exception.
  •  I agree to attend at least THREE(3) Academic Counseling sessions with a TRIO SSS Counselor each semester, one of which must be a mid-semester review.
  • In addition, I agree to attend additional advising sessions as needed.
  •  I agree to attend THREE (3) events per Academic Year (1-Academic,1-Financial,1-Cultural) unless absence is due to extenuating circumstances, and has been approved by my TRIO counselor. 
  •  I agree, if my GPA falls below a 2.15, enter an academic alert, or do not meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) to participate in creating an action plan with my TRIO SSS Counselor or with USI's College Success Coaches (i.e. Academic Success Center, and/or academic advising sessions). 
  • I agree to immediately share details that may affect my academic focus on school and ask for help when needed.
  •  I agree to keep my appointments with program staff and tutors, or with good reason, cancel as early as possible. 
  •  I agree to check my university email daily for program information. 
  •  I agree to notify TRIO SSS if I take a semester off, transfer, study abroad or withdraw from the university.
  • If I fail to comply with any part of this agreement, I understand I may be dismissed from the program.

PROGRAM AUTHORIZATION:

As an actively participating TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) student or applicant, I:

  • Authorize SSS staff to obtain records of my grades, and if necessary, communicate with professors to obtain that information.
  • Understand that such information will be kept confidential and will be used to evaluate my academic progress and determine appropriate services.
  • Give permission to the TRIO SSS staff to share my academic and accommodation needs to qualified University of Southern Indiana (USI) persons. 
  • Give permission to SSS to contact me by phone, text message, mail, or e-mail involving services I am receiving.
  • Give permission for SSS to use photographs of me on web sites and other Program-related publications.
  • For students receiving services/accommodations from the USI Disability Resource Center: I give permission to TRIO SSS to speak with the Disabilities Services Director and/or Coordinator on my behalf, and, in so doing, may obtain information regarding my accommodations and nature of my disability.
